The 2010 global campaign focuses on Young Donors, with the slogan "New blood for the world". It hopes that a new generation of idealistic and motivated voluntary unpaid blood donors will form a pool that provides the safest blood possible for use wherever and whenever it is needed to save life. In events and activities around the world, youth will be the focus of the day.

It is the third year since we are observing 14th June as the World Blood Donor Day. This day is dedicated to the voluntary blood donors who give their blood without monetary benefits.
14th June is the birthday of Karl Landsteiner, the man responsible for the creation of the ABO blood group system, for which he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine. The primary purpose of commemorating such a day is to make sure that people have the availibility of "safe blood" for transfuion purposes.
